Important Fraud Alert – Unauthorized Contact Using Public Mortgage Records

Dear Farm Credit of Western Kansas Members:
We are writing to notify you of a recent security concern involving a third‑party threat actor who has been attempting to contact Farm Credit of Western Kansas borrowers by using information obtained from publicly available mortgage records. This individual or group is not affiliated with our Association or the Farm Credit System in any way.
Recently, we became aware a borrower in our service area received a notice instructing them to call a phone number in connection with their loan. The notice included incorrect Association name and phone numbers, indicating the communication was fraudulent and intended to mislead the recipient.
We have no indication of a data breach within our systems. Instead, it appears the threat actor is relying solely on publicly accessible mortgage filings to impersonate Farm Credit entities and prompt borrowers to contact them directly.
What You Should Do:
Do not respond to any unexpected calls, texts, emails, or mail pieces that reference your loan but do not match the contact information you normally use for our Association.
